BLOW YOUR OWN HORN

While you’re growing up, don’t just disappear,
Loudly shout out, “It’s me in here!”
Be your own cheering section, your own brass band,
And help make your life go the way that you planned.

It’s time to announce your arrival,
So blow your own horn,
And let everyone know it was lucky for them the day you were born.
Don’t hide indoors; that only does harm,
So come out smiling and turn on the charm.

And announce to everyone in a voice loud and clear,
That when you were born, you were the baby of the year.
But when others butt in and start doing all the talking,
And when you speak up, they start shouting and squawking.

And acting as if you aren’t even there,
You have to get a fan and blow away the hot air.
Because they will tell you they’re the best of the best,
And speak even louder as they’re thumping their chest.

And if you’ve been listening closely to all of that stuff,
By now I think you have heard quite enough.
It’s time to quit listening to what other people have to say,
You’re just as good as them any old day.

And remind them of their good luck the day you were born,
And hire a brass band, and start blowing your own horn.
