A GIFT OF WONDER

She searched for my gift; she worked really hard,
And found everything she needed in the backyard.
Then she tried to hide her treasures from my searching eyes,
Because she wanted to make sure the gift was a surprise.

At first I thought she was playing, just having fun,
Then I nearly broke into tears when I realized what she had done.
And her heart must have swelled with pride, and she smiled and beamed like the sun,
She brought our two hearts together, two hearts beating as one.

Being so little, how did she know
That her daddy was depressed and feeling so low?
The gift that she gave me created a bond
That would lift me out of a place, up, up, and beyond.

And it was amazing to see how much empathy was shown,
By giving four little dandelions and a little round stone.
