ANNIE, KEEP YOUR SHOES ON
Annie, keep your shoes on, I have finally gotten you dressed,
Friends are coming to see you, and I want you looking your best.
Oh! Oh! Oh no! Why are you missing a shoe?
Oh! Oh! Oh no! There goes the other one too!
I couldn’t believe the amusement I felt,
Then I saw a twinkle in her eye, and my heart started to melt.
Okay, Annie, have it your way,
If that’s the game you’re playing, then that’s the game we’re going to play.
Though keeping Annie dressed, to some, could be seen as a chore,
Her laughter and giggles made sure that it was never a bore.
Off goes one shoe, then oh! Oh! There goes a sock,
So I started making a fuss like it was a big shock.
Then I stop and have a couple of chuckles,
Thinking of how easy it would be if the shoes had buckles,
Instead of laces with the ends being frayed,
From too many “I can kick them off faster than you can put them on” games that we played.
Annie, keep your socks and shoes on, and let the games begin,
And Annie, I would love it so much if you had a copycat twin!
