FEAR
“You have nothing to fear, but fear itself.” That’s what a great American president once said.
So does that mean that fear is all in my head?
Fear helps keep you alive until you grow old,
So when fear tells me to run away, I do what I am told.
But maybe the famous president was right; maybe I should try to be brave,
And not try to live like a hermit in my psychological cave.
Maybe it’s time to come out of my shell, because how can you hide
From feelings that make you tense and all shaky inside?
It looks like there’s little chance that I will conquer my fear, and yet,
If I don’t try to conquer my fears, I’m going to regret
Not fighting my fears and putting them all in the past,
And bringing an end to those irrational fears at last.
Maybe, after all, the American president was right:
Put your fears out of your thoughts, and don’t let them ruin your day and keep you awake at night.
