INDIGENOUS OR FIRST NATIONS

Indigenous or first nation, it’s all the same to me,
They once owned every bit of this country from sea to sparkling sea.
Yes, they once owned every bit of this land,
Even the spot, where you now stand!
Then explorers and settlers took the land and gave back promises and beads,
Then pushed the indigenous onto reservations and neglected needs.
So give them lots of respect without reservation,
And give them a place of honour across our great nation.
Look at all the treaties that were broken,
And all the false promises that they have spoken.
The indigenous people wanted to take care of the land,
If things had gone the way the indigenous had planned.
We would have lots of clean water and lots of clean air,
Because the indigenous would make the world safe for all living there.
So, to the new kid in school, don’t call him “chief”,
Stop being mean, the kid has had enough grief.
And cut out the talk about tomahawks and wampum, and war parties and stuff.
Stop all of this nonsense, give the indigenous their due,
And that includes giving them equality in the playground too.
