ENVY
Envy can strike whoever it likes, whenever it likes,
And it can change forever the person it strikes.
At first, you were happy with life because you thought you had lots,
Then envy strikes and you start to have second thoughts.
You were the king of your world until the green-eyed monster bit,
Then the pieces of your perfect life no longer seemed to fit.
You get depression and are full of regret,
Thinking of the things you didn’t have and were not going to get.
You’re not much anymore; you’re just a has-been,
When you look at yourself through eyes that are green.
You are no longer happy; your anxiety won’t let you rest,
Because you think you will always be second best.
So when you see something you can’t have but really like,
Don’t let the green monster rear up and strike.
Put the monster in an escape-proof container and snap shut the lid,
And that will be one of the best things for yourself that you ever did.
Because that will drive all the clouds of envy away,
And with a smile, you step into a much brighter day.
