EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE IMPORTANT

Everyone wants to be important. They think everything should be about “me.”
They always chatter about themselves, and there’s hardly a mention of “we.”
How does someone become so self-important? It’s all in their mind.
You will meet people like that everywhere, they’re always easy to find.

But if they really want to be important,
They are going about it the wrong way.
They should try being important to others, by helping to brighten their day.
The world doesn’t need more prima-donnas, people at the top of the heap.
If the only help they offer is helping themselves, that sort of help they can keep.

If you really want to be important, do so by doing a good deed,
And you don’t have to look very far to find lots of people in need.
They might even be members of your family, or those in the neighbourhood.
So get up off the couch and get out there and start doing some good.

Everybody wants to be important, but you shouldn’t do it by bragging and pounding your chest.
It’s time to stop that kind of behaviour, it’s time to give it a rest.

Everyone wants to be on top of the heap; that feeling is in all of us.
But please don’t try to be self-important by throwing us all under the bus.
So if you truly want to help, it’s an easy thing to do:
Start thinking more about others, and a whole lot less about you!
